Close-up of upper front teeth and gums, showing redness and cuts on the gumline above the front teeth, suggesting recent Dental Implant Study Club procedure or injury. The teeth appear clean and well-aligned.

A “gummy smile” is the result of having too much gum and not enough teeth showing when smiling.

AESTHETIC CROWN LENGTHENING

Slide 1

Close-up of upper front teeth and gums. The highlighted gum line above six teeth suggests areas for evaluation or treatment, ideal for discussion in a Dental Implant Study Club setting.

Cosmetic surgery or plastic surgery of the gums is a very simple procedure which removes and reshapes the gum line to expose more tooth and minimizes the gum tissue.

Crown lengthening surgery greatly enhances aesthetics by improving tooth to gum proportions. It is important to address the foundation tissues before cosmetic dental work.

AESTHETIC CROWN LENGTHENING

A close-up view of a person's mouth showing clean, straight upper and lower teeth with healthy gums—ideal for discussion at a Dental Implant Study Club. The person's lips are held back to clearly display the teeth and gums.

This is a dental implant patient treated by Dr. Farthing. Two of the upper front teeth are dental implants. Can you tell which teeth are the dental implants?

DENTAL IMPLANTS (Case 1)

Slide 1

A close-up of a person's upper and lower teeth. The left lateral incisor and the right canine on the top row are highlighted in pink, ideal for use in a Dental Implant Study Club presentation or discussion.

When dental implants are done well you should not be able to tell which are dental implants and which are the patient’s natural teeth.

This case also illustrates how cosmetic gum surgery improves aesthetic outcomes.

Slide 3

Close-up of upper front teeth with a thin layer of orange dental material applied to the edges for restoration or bonding, as often demonstrated in Dental Implant Study Club sessions. The gums and roof of the mouth are visible.

Note the changes in the gum line and gum shapes to produce a much more pleasing and beautiful smile.

Dental implants placed with Oral Plastic Surgery techniques result in enhanced aesthetic treatment outcomes.

Close-up view of three upper front teeth with visible gums showing mild redness and swelling, indicating possible gum inflammation or gingivitis—an important case for discussion in a Dental Implant Study Club.

This is another dental implant patient – treated by Dr. Farthing. Can you tell which tooth is the dental implant?

DENTAL IMPLANTS (Case 2)

When fragile teeth break below the gum line, they cannot be saved. Dental implants replace the missing teeth without compromising the adjacent teeth.

In this case, both gum grafting and soft tissue enhancement was performed to result in an ideal treatment outcome.

Gingival recession develops when the bone has already receded.

SOFT TISSUE ENHANCEMENT

Slide 1

Close-up of upper front teeth and gum tissue. A white circle highlights swollen, reddish gum tissue above one tooth, indicating possible gum inflammation or infection—an important topic in Dental Implant Study Club discussions.

The gingival graft covers and attaches to the root effectively “shortening the exposed tooth”. When strengthening the periodontal support, gingival grafting results in a more pleasing and more aesthetic smile while strengthening the tooth’s foundation.

SOFT TISSUE ENHANCEMENT

A dental X-ray image showing two teeth with their roots visible, marked by a large white circle highlighting an area of interest—perfect for Dental Implant Study Club discussions.

Periodontitis is a chronic infection that destroys the supporting bone.

BONE REGENERATION

Dental X-rays showing two sets of molars with roots circled; the left image shows a darker area near one tooth root compared to the right, suggesting a possible abnormality or difference in bone density for Dental Implant Study Club discussion.

Bone grafting restores and regrows the bone foundation in order to help save the natural dentition.
